My mother used to say to me, “It’s not what happens to you in life, it’s what you do with it.” I have certainly seen the biblical truth in that, as I have watched people go through similar experiences yet come out with different life lessons.
These experiences can either build us up or tear us down. We can either end up feeling resentful and bitter or strengthened and wiser.
So how do we keep the situations from controlling us? The answer is to allow God to work through the circumstances, so He can develop our faith and character. We don’t have to rely on our own abilities, which sometimes leave us feeling irritated, overwhelmed, or disheartened.
So, the next time we look for a course of action, we should turn to God’s Word for wisdom and guidance. Happiness truly comes from trusting and obeying God.
“Everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who build his house on the rock…The winds blew and slammed against that house and yet it did not fall.” (Matthew 7:24-25)
