Many of us are asking where history is going. Will society get better and better – or will we end up destroying ourselves? Are the advances we are making globally helping more people live moral and spiritually fulfilling lives?
Christ prayed, “Thy kingdom come. Thy Will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10). Some day that prayer – a prayer that many of us pray – is going to be answered. No human leader, however good or bad, will write the last chapter of history. Only God will write it. And write it He will.
When we are doubtful, it helps to remember that God is both transcendent and imminent. God is present, and God intervenes in His way, in His time. We don’t always understand the works of His hands, but we can be sure of the outcome. The future belongs to the Kingdom of God.
Psalm 45:6 – “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever.”
